Three local youth selected to attend Youth Energy Leadership Camp
(June 6, 2017) Lexington, Neb. – Dawson Public Power District has selected three local youth to attend the Nebraska Rural Electric Association Youth Energy Leadership Camp as its representatives.
YELC focuses on the electrical utility industry and promotes leadership skills for its more than 60 high school-aged attendees. The camp runs July 10-14 and is held at the Nebraska State 4-H Camp in Halsey.
Camp activities include tours of the Nebraska Public Power District Gerald Gentleman Power Station and the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District Kingsley Hydroelectric Power Plant. Attendees also participate in hands-on learning opportunities including utility pole climbing, workshops and presentations by regional experts.
Dawson PPD sponsors up to three campers who live in a residence serviced by the District. To be considered, applicants wrote an essay on the topic, “What form of renewable energy is the best choice for Nebraska’s power supply?”
