Consumers have more vehicle and machinery options. Ethanol and biodiesel have been widely available for consumers. Renewable diesel is the fastest growing fuel in the United States. Local schools have purchased propane fueled buses using Nebraska Clean Diesel Program grants.

“The variety of fuels and technologies are growing. Each is being improved and many are becoming more affordable. We hope that customers will consider electric vehicles (EVs) when they plan a purchase,” says Marsha Banzhaf, Manager of Consumer Services.

Electric vehicles are very effective for:

  • Commuter vehicles, especially those driven 200 miles or less per day
  • Reduced operating costs, less maintenance

Can Dawson PPD’s grid handle electric vehicles?

Most residential services have enough capacity for a car charger, however homeowners may need wiring upgrades on their side of the meter. Dawson PPD’s system can handle a gradual increase in EV use. Eventually, the District may use load management programs or time of use rates to handle the demand on the grid.

Did someone say incentives?

Purchasing an electric vehicle may have personal or business tax advantages. In addition, Dawson PPD customers can qualify for rebates:

  • $4,500 goEV rebate for a new electric vehicle.
  • $500 rebate is available for the purchase of a home charging station.
  • $200 to $400 incentive is available for installing charging station wiring in a new or existing home.
