The horsepower or demand portion of the irrigation bill will be adjusted if an account’s power factor reading is under 90%. The reading was listed on the 2021 energy billing.
Dawson PPD started educating customers about the use of power factor in spring of 2020. A video overview of power factor and billing can be found at Dawson Public Power District’s YouTube channel.
Here are the basic facts:

  • Power Factor – A measurement of how effectively electricity is being used
  • 90 – 99% Power Factor – No additional charges for horsepower demand
  • 89.9% Power Factor or Less – The demand billing will be adjusted to reach 90%. This will increase the amount of horsepower billed. The adjusted horsepower
can be determined by using the calculator under the irrigation tab at DawsonPower.com.
  • 100% Power Factor – If power factor was shown as 100% on your fall 2021 energy billing statement, please be aware that the reading will likely change over the 2022 season. Call Dawson PPD when the irrigation system is running so that we can provide you with updated information.
