When you flip a switch, you expect the light to turn on. But electricity does more than light a room—it powers a student studying late, community gatherings, and the farms and businesses driving our local economy. That is the heart of public power.
Nebraska is the only state in the nation served entirely by a public power system. Unlike investor-owned utilities driven by shareholder profits, Dawson PPD operates on a not-for-profit basis. Every dollar of revenue is reinvested directly back into our system to keep your rates affordable and your power dependable.
This October, during Public Power Month, we celebrate the core pillars that guide everything we do:
- Local People: Our employees and board members live and work alongside you. Whether we are maintaining power lines or presenting at local youth and civic programs, service is at our core.
- Local Decisions: Dawson PPD is governed by a locally elected Board of Directors. Our board members hold monthly public meetings and attend ongoing training to stay informed. Because they are accountable to you, local community priorities—not corporate profits—always come first.
- Local Power: Every investment we make stays right here at home. Upgrading substations, replacing poles, maintaining power lines, and adopting modern technologies ensure safe, reliable service today while laying the foundation for future economic growth.
Public power is built on local control, transparency, and a commitment to serving our neighbors. Thank you for trusting us to power what matters most to you, your families, and our communities.
