Dawson PPD’s contracted after hours call center with Nebraska Public Power District is back online. Traditionally, Dawson PPD employees answer customer calls and dispatch line crews during regular business hours, and transfer the calls to a call center in the evening and on weekends. The NPPD call center was temporarily evacuated due to flooding concerns at its location in Norfolk. The city’s evacuation was lifted the morning of Friday, March 15. Dawson PPD customers are still encouraged to call in power outages, if any. Our phone number is 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305.

Our thoughts go out to all of those who have been impacted by the flooding. If you must go into flooded areas, please keep your personal safety a priority. There could be hidden electrical dangers in the floodwaters.
We have not had any major power outages since Thursday, March 14, at 2:30 p.m. However, if you experience a power outage please call us to report it: 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305.

3/14 at 3:30 p.m.:

Dawson PPD employees will be answering phone calls and dispatching crews over the evening of Thursday, March 14, and through Friday, March 15. This is in response to Dawson PDD’s contracted after hours call center with Nebraska Public Power District being temporarily closed due to weather conditions.
When reporting a power outage, customers are asked to have their meter number ready for efficient call processing: 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305. You will find your meter number on your last bill statement or on SmartHub. To ensure that phone lines are available for others to call, customers are asked to please refrain from calling for power restoration updates. Dawson PPD will post these updates here on Facebook and our website (DawsonPower.com) and notify the local media.
From all of us at Dawson PPD, thank you for your patience. We appreciate you!

3/14 at 2:30 p.m:

Power has been restored to 100 customers in the North Platte area. If you are still without power, please call Dawson PPD at 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305.

3/14 at 2:00 p.m.:

Customers in the North Platte area are without power. Crews have been dispatched. If you have called in a power outage, thank you. Please be patient as we work to restore power. High winds, low visibility and flooded areas are making it difficult for our lineworkers to safely find the issue and resolve it. Call 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305.

3/14 at 11:20 a.m.:

So far, so good. We have a few isolated power outages that crews are working on. Flooded roads, high winds and low visibility have slowed our restoration process. Lineworkers are now patrolling areas – especially areas with flooding – to check on equipment and poles, and to anticipate any possible issues. We are keeping safety a top priority as we do this. Remember that if  you encounter a flooded road, “turn around, don’t drown!” Also, our call center with NPPD is still unavailable, and it is not clear when it will be back up, so our phone lines may be busier than usual. If you have a power outage, please call us at 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305.

3/14 at 9:15 a.m.:

Power is restored to the Brady area and the surrounding areas. Crews were dispatched early this morning but lack of daylight, high winds and flooded roads slowed restoration efforts. If customers are still without power, please call Dawson PPD at 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305.

3/14 at 7:15 a.m.:

Extreme weather has closed Dawson PPD’s after hours call center, which is contracted with Nebraska Public Power District. The main call center is located in Norfolk. Due to levee break concerns, the call center is evacuating. NPPD’s alternate call center in Columbus is unavailable as their employees cannot safely travel to the office. Dawson PPD employees will be available to take phone calls, but lines may be busier than usual. Please call to report power outages at 308-324-2386 or toll free at 800-752-8305.

3/13 at 2:45 p.m.:

Power has been restored to the Kearney – Cottonmill area. Customers are encouraged to call if they are still without power at 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305.

A Dawson PPD lineworker is using his personal scuba gear to access the flooded electrical equipment. The crew is attempting to build a temporary service to restore power to the Kearney – Cottonmill area. We are encouraging our customers to stay updated on local weather forecasts and to be prepared for a possible power outage. The gallery below includes a graphic on food safety during a power outage.

3/13 at noon:

Crews continue to work in the Kearney – Cottonmill area to restore power to about 500 Kearney homes. Flood waters have rose about one foot since crews arrived on site, making it difficult to access equipment and restore power. Other power outages within Dawson PPD’s service territory are back on. We anticipate that the rising flood waters and predicted high winds will make any future power outages problematic for safety and power restoration. Please be prepared – have water on hand, charge your cell phone, test your generator and keep your meter number and our phone number close by: 308-324-2386.

3/13 at 8:55 a.m.:

Power was disconnected in the Kearney – Cottonmill area so lineworkers may safely access the transformer. Dawson PPD is working with the Buffalo County Highway Department to divert water away from the equipment. Other power outages are scattered throughout Dawson PPD’s service territory and crews have been dispatched.
