Dawson PPD awards $1,500 Utility Line Scholarship to Amherst student

(April 8, 2019)

Dawson Public Power District has awarded Deric John a $1,500 Utility Line scholarship to pursue his degree. John, who resides in Miller, is a senior at Amherst High School.

John plans to attend Northeast Community College in Norfolk in the fall of 2019.

“I admire the linemen who are outside working at all hours of the day in all kinds of weather to make sure customers have electricity,” he wrote. “I look forward to learning about the concepts of electricity and line construction.”

The Dawson PPD Utility Line Scholarship has been awarded to one student annually since 2001.

“Utility line students develop basic electrical utility skill sets and are conscious about safety,” said Communications Specialist Chelsea Gengenbach. “The scholarship aims to support these students who will be tomorrow’s employees and leaders.”
