November 18, 2019 – Boxes and packing tape – check. Moving truck scheduled – check. Close electric utility account – huh? Dawson Public Power District customers planning to move need to notify the utility to avoid additional charges.
In four easy steps, customers may cancel their electrical service and make a clean break.
When moving, Dawson PPD is reminding its customers to notify them; preferably before the last day of service. Have the following information available when calling:

  1. Know your last day of service
  2. Share your forwarding address for the final statement, or possibly a refund on a deposit
  3. New phone number, if applicable
  4. Names of the new owners/tenants, if available

“Each rental situation is unique, so we ask that all tenants call us so we can work with all parties when cancelling electrical service,” said Connie Hird, Supervisor of Consumer Accounts and Records.
“Whether you are a homeowner or renter, customers are monetarily responsible for all electrical usage up to the day Dawson PPD is notified – regardless of when they actually moved. We cannot back date our service orders.”
After the customer has made contact, Dawson PPD will make a service order and note the date when the request was made.
To cancel your electrical service, or for any additional questions, please call Dawson PPD at 308-324-2386 or 800-752-8305.
