Between the lines: Strategic planning
By Gwen Kautz
In January, the board of directors and management team met with the goal to look at how we can better serve our customers and our company over the next three years. We talked about what do you need from us, as well as what we need from you.
A day and a half were dedicated to the process of identifying our strengths and our weaknesses. We addressed industry trends, opportunities and threats as well as the things in the future that will impact the way we do business. We broke into small groups to make sure every voice was heard.
The directors looked at things from a customer perspective because that’s what they are. Then they changed hats and looked at management’s obstacles and opportunities. We talked about governance and accountability. We addressed transparency and controls.
The walls in our training room were covered with discussion points. We looked at our mission statement and those things that impact how we do things. There were laughs and aha moments that gave us pause.
After the strategic planning session, we invited our employees to review our notes and provide input. We wanted to make sure that everyone had the opportunity to have their voice heard.
Over the next few months, the management team at Dawson PPD will review the top strategies and develop plans on how to move in that direction. These objectives will be approved by the board sometime in May and will be shared with our customers. We kept three goals in mind: safety, reliable service and affordability.
