The Lexington Walmart’s 10 week remodeling efforts rewarded them with a $29,730 rebate through the EnergyWise program. More than 3,000 light bulbs and fixtures in the building and parking lot were replaced with energy efficient LEDs. About $320,000 went into the lighting remodel.
The upgrades will save an estimated $34,000 annually; the equivalent to almost two months of energy use at the store.
The EnergyWise program is hosted through Nebraska Public Power District, wholesale supplier of Dawson PPD. Part of Dawson PPD’s wholesale power bill contributes to the EnergyWise program funds, which are returned back to Dawson PPD’s customers. Individuals and businesses alike who are Dawson PPD customers may be eligible for rebates. Click here or call 308-324-2386 for details.
Other energy efficient upgrades the Lexington Walmart made were new produce coolers, deli hot cases and a steak case. Additional upgrades include online grocery pickup, a pickup tower service, more self-checkout stands and shorter shelving in the electronics section.
“Walmart’s motto is to save people money so they can live better,” said Lexington Walmart General Manager Shawna Knott. “These upgrades will allow us to continue to pass our savings down to our customers.”
