Take a look at the cost of common items in 2012 compared to 2022. Electricity remains a good value because of the values that public power stands on: reliability, safety and affordability.
- The average cost of a gallon of gas was $3.59 in June 2012. In June 2022, that cost rose to $5.03.
- A gallon of milk was $2.79 in 2012. Today, it costs $4.77.
- A loaf of bread was $1.88 in 2012. In 2022, that cost rose to $2.54.
- A median home price was $154,000 in 2012. In 2022, that price increased to $368,200.
The average Nebraska residential cost per kilowatt hour of electricity was about 10 cents in 2012. In 2020, that cost rose to just 11 cents (EIA two-year lagging). Public power remains a good value for Nebraska.

Central and Dawson PPD to vote second time on consolidation documents at July 17 meetings
The boards of The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District and Dawson Public Power District plan to vote again on the documents required for their consolidation next month. The boards will each hold a special Board Meeting on July 17 at each districts’ respective headquarters.
Three youth selected to attend Youth Energy Leadership Camp
Dawson PPD is sponsoring three local students to attend the Nebraska Rural Electric Association Youth Energy Leadership Camp. The camp will be held at Camp Comeca near Cozad July 9-13, 2023.
