Rebates
Rebates for Energy Efficient Upgrades
Doing your part just got easier.
Dawson PPD teams up with Nebraska Public Power District to offer customers incentive payments for improving energy efficiency. Our goal is to use our resources wisely — to keep costs low and to control greenhouse gas emissions.
General Rebate Guidelines
Residential
Attic Insulation
If you have six or less inches of insulation in your attic you may qualify for a rebate when you add six or more inches of insulation. To qualify you must have a heat pump, electric furnace or permanently installed electric heat (baseboard, radiant, etc.).
Cooling System Tune-up
To keep your heat pump or air conditioner running efficiently, it should receive periodic tune-ups by a trained professional.
Air Source and Geothermal Heat Pump
Your heating and cooling system is likely the largest user of energy in your home. Earn an incentive when installing a qualified high efficiency heat pump. We give you two options to choose from — a rebate or low-interest loan.
Heat Pump Water Heater
Heat pump water heaters offer improved efficiency and increased energy savings compared to standard units. The benefit of a heat pump water heater is that you get at least twice as much hot water from each kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed as you get from a standard electric water heater.
Smart Thermostat
Most Nebraska homes use around half of their energy for heating and cooling. Control your home from anywhere with a Smart Thermostat. Customers that primarily use electric heat qualify for a $100 rebate. Fossil-fuel heating customers will receive $25. An additional $25 rebate is available to customers who hire a professional to install the thermostat.
Induction Cooking
Experience cooking technology that rivals the power of gas while providing greater efficiency, safety, and precision. Induction cooking is one of the most efficient ways to prepare food. By generating an electromagnetic field below the glass surface, energy is transferred directly to the cookware on top. Unlike traditional electric or gas cooktops and stovetops, no flame or burner is necessary.
Transfer Switch Installation
Dawson PPD offers a rebate to customers who have a transfer switch (also called a double-throw switch) installed so they can safely connect their generator for use during a power outage.
A transfer switch is important because it does not allow power from the generator to flow back through the meter and transformer and out on the power line. If a customer’s generator sent power back on the line, it could kill linemen who are making repairs to the line.
Tax Credits
Tax credits are available from the U.S. government for several types of energy efficiency upgrades.

Commercial
Prescriptive Lighting
Lighting technologies developed in the past ten years can help cut your lighting costs up to 80 percent while enhancing lighting quality and reducing environmental impacts.
Your utility’s Commercial/Industrial Lighting Efficiency Program offers cash incentives to help cover the cost of a variety of energy-efficient upgrades.
Commercial HVAC
HVAC systems are the primary energy consumers in commercial buildings. Improving the performance of your HVAC system not only saves energy, but can have a positive impact on your building occupants´ health, comfort, and productivity as well.
Industrial Process
In an industrial plant energy efficiency improvement projects often are unique and do not fit a prescriptive program. Each manufacturing plant has certain characteristics that can require an individual approach to projects. All projects must be preapproved before any equipment is ordered.
In addition, the customer is required to document potential project energy savings by providing a detailed study. Incentives are paid based on annual savings versus baseline usage and payback criteria.
Variable Frequency Drive
Variable frequency drives (VFDs, also referred to as variable speed drives) can reduce output by controlling the motor rather than having the motor work at a constant, almost full load and adjusting the system to obtain a desired result. Variable speed drives are especially effective at reducing power and energy consumption to centrifugal equipment such as pumps and fans.
Custom Lighting
The Custom Lighting Incentive program may apply to you if your proposed LED lighting improvements are not available under the Prescriptive Lighting.
HVAC System Optimization
Your building’s heating, ventilating and air-conditioning system (HVAC) could be costing you big dollars due to inefficient operation. In fact, HVAC systems can account for about half of the energy used in your building.
By optimizing your building’s HVAC system, you may save 10-20 percent or more of your building’s energy costs.
Heat Pump Water Heater
Heat pump water heaters offer improved efficiency and increased energy savings compared to standard units. The benefit of a heat pump water heater is that you get at least twice as much hot water from each kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed as you get from a standard electric water heater.
Agriculture & Irrigation
Sprinkler Package
Dawson PPD wants to help producers make the most of the energy needed for irrigating with all-electric systems. We will provide a $500 incentive when producers replace all of a system’s existing outlet components such as sprinkler heads, sprayers, rotators, plates, pads and nozzles and regulators on qualified systems.
Moisture Sensor
If you’re still using the hand-feel method or watching your neighbor across the road to determine when to irrigate, you’re likely overwatering. A $300 incentive may be available for installing a moisture sensor incorporated with an irrigation management program or software.
Corner Pivot VFD Incentive
Irrigation systems that need to operate at varying loads can greatly benefit with the installation of a variable frequency drive (VFD). VFDs are electronic monitor and control systems that alter the speed of pump rotation by adjusting the frequency of the electricity delivered to the motor. It is especially useful for pivots operating on hilly land and for pivot systems utilizing a corner arm. When the full output of the pump is not needed, the VFD will reduce the power being applied. This results in energy savings and reduces the wear and tear on the irrigation system.
The EnergyWise Program has two options for irrigation systems; a custom incentive for any type of irrigation system and a prescriptive incentive for pivot systems employing a corner arm.
Corner Pivot VFD Incentive
Grain Aeration Incentive
Considering most manually operated grain aeration operates three to four times longer than necessary, qualified automated systems can earn a one-time incentive of $0.011 per bushel based on the bin’s capacity.
Hog Heat Mat Incentive
Compared to heat lamps, heat mats consume about half the energy and last around 15 years. Most heat lamps last a few years at best.
Pump Testing Incentive
Get up to $350 for having a professional efficiency test conducted on electric irrigation pumps.
Custom Agricultural/Irrigation Incentive
In Nebraska, the agricultural sector spends more than $250 million annually for electricity. While your local electric utility offers various EnergyWise℠ incentive programs to help offset the costs of energy efficiency improvements, some projects are unique and do not fit a particular prescriptive program. For these energy-saving opportunities, the Custom Agriculture Incentive Program was developed.
If a customer’s generator sent power back on the line, it could kill lineworkers who are making repairs to the line.
Electric Vehicle
Electric Vehicle Charging Station and Pre-wiring Incentives
Whether you plan to buy an electric vehicle or already lead the charge, Dawson PPD has a goEV incentive waiting for you.
