Steve Faber Christmas Light Display 1

Steve Faber is no stranger to going all out for Christmas decorations.

“My mom loved Christmas,” Faber said. “She would always decorate for the holiday. My kids and I would help decorate each year. When she passed away, I took it to another level.”

Faber has been shining a light on the family tradition with his own Christmas light display for the past decade. Located at the corner of 70th and Pawnee southeast of Gibbon, the expansive display takes up much of the front yard. Faber welcomes the public to take a quick 5-10 minute walk through the display.

“It’s fun! I like it when people stop and look through it,” Faber said. “I have a snowman that’s 12 feet tall, and from the road you can’t really tell how big it is, but when you walk up to it, you’re like ‘oh wow, that’s big!’ It’s fun for the kids and adults alike.”

The focal point of the display is a flagpole decorated to look like a Christmas tree.

“The flagpole marks where my parents’ house used to sit on the property, and it’s a nod to them every time you walk by to enter the display walkway,” Faber said.

The 30 or more displays are intertwined with festive Christmas lights and 50 or more extension cords. Faber’s son and Dawson PPD lineworker, CinJin, helps his father set up the display. It takes about two and a half days to have everything in place.

While the display is comprised of mostly inflatables, Faber plans to slowly replace them with more weather-resistant décor.

“The Nebraska wind is just brutal to these inflatables,” Faber said. “On really windy nights, I won’t power them on. As these die out, I’ll look into replacing them with cutouts or something more durable.”

The display is located one mile south of Highway 30. It lights up at dusk and will be available for viewing through Christmas Day.
